I am a Registered Dietitian with 11 years of experience working within endocrinology clinics and developing an in depth understanding of management of both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes as well as overweight or obesity. My approach within this practice will be to provide education for a better understanding of the science and biology of each of these conditions and support to incorporate behavioural interventions to achieve your health goals and optimize management of these chronic conditions.

Welcome to Laurel Z RD! I’m Laurel, a Registered Dietitian, Certified Diabetes Educator, and Certified Bariatric Educator. I completed my dietetics degree at the University of British Columbia and my internship in Kelowna, before returning to my hometown of Calgary to begin my career.

I’ve spent over a decade working in endocrinology clinics as a Certified Diabetes Educator, specializing in the care of individuals with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

Since 2019, I’ve also focused on the science of weight, overweight, and obesity as a chronic disease, helping to develop a program that supports individuals through evidence-based education and care. Throughout my journey, I have completed several training courses to support individuals living with overweight or obesity such as Health not Weight, Advanced Obesity Counselling Certificate, and received my Certification as a Bariatric Educator with Obesity Canada.

My approach is rooted in clinical experience and guided by the Diabetes Canada Clinical Practice Guidelines and the Adult Obesity Clinical Practice Guidelines. I’m passionate about helping people understand the science behind diabetes and/or weight management and supporting them on their journey to better health.

Available to see patients located in Alberta and British Columbia with current registration in both provinces.
